Description
Quilts!
Quilting camp we will learn the basic half square triangle which can be designed into so many different squares.
Day 1 – Greeting and Introductions and practice
Students will learn basic quilting terms which will help them through the process of piecing. Also, I will show them different tools they can try in the camp that can make the process easier. We will learn how to piece together the half square triangle and they will get a demo about “squaring up” pieces. Then the class will design a quilt top using grid paper and colored pencils.
Those that feel comfortable with sewing the triangles will start piecing their quilt squares and those that need to practice will have time in the first class to practice this technique
Day 2 – Piece by Piece
Piecing, all students will work on putting together their blocks, there will be a design wall for them to use to keep the tops in order. This is the real fun part of quilting, getting to see all those squares come together!! We will continue to put our triangles together and by the end of the day our tops should be completed and we will start the “sandwich” process of the batting and backing. Prepping it for construction on Day 3.
Day 3 – Finishing up
The last day we will sandwich the top, batting, and backing. Students will have a choice of straight stitch quilting, hand quilting or tacking. This will be discussed and depending on where they are in the finishing process will determine the best way to finish their lap quilt. We will have a quick photoshoot with the kiddo’s and their quilts on the hill behind the studio!
