Kids Learn to Sew
4-week workshop – Learn the basic techniques that will help inspire creations to come! Each week we will learn a new technique or skill to help build confidence. Projects will be straight stitch projects to help master the basics of keeping a straight line, seam allowance and clean stitching.
Pick your session – please make sure you will be able to commit to all 4 classes.
What will we make?!
March 7th 5:30-7: 30 PM
Drawstring bag
Picking up from the 101 series we will start to make more advanced projects! Beginning with a drawstring bag, big enough to fit a pair of shoes for travel!

March 14 5:30-7: 30 PM
Embroidery 101 – Basic Stitches – homework will be a simple design that we will make into a zipper pouch the following week!
Learning the basic embroidery stitches like the backstitch, split stitch, french knot or satin stitch. Then you will choose an embroidery design 3 colors and start stitching. Homework will be finishing your stitches so we can use in the next week’s project!
March 21 5:30-7: 30 PM
Embroidered zipper pouch
We will use the previous week’s project lesson to create a lined boxed bottom zipper pouch. Learning how to insert a basic zipper!
March 28th 5:30-7: 30 PM
Reverse Appliqued Envelope Pillow
The final class of the workshop, students will learn how to construct a reversed applique envelope pillowcase. Using wool felt and fabric to construct this fun last project of the series!
Prerequisites: Basic sewing skills, filling a bobbin, threading machine, seam allowance, cutting fabric.
What you will learn:
Hand embroidery stitches such as back-stitch, french knot, split stitch, satin stitch.
Transferring embroidery design to fabric and color choice.
Sewing using the zipper foot
Using fusible interfacing
Cutting out a pattern
Measuring
Marking projects
Reverse Applique
Casing
Threading casing

2 fat quarters (different patterns/prints) (zipper pouch)
One 9″ YKK zipper (zipper pouch)
1/2 Yard of Fusible Interfacing (zipper pouch)
3/4 Yard Cotton Print (multi-directional prints work best – envelope pillow)
12×12 Pillow Form
1/2 Yard Cotton (drawstring bag)
2 yards of 1inch grosgrain ribbon
Supplies provided by the instructor:
Sewing machine for those that need to borrow one

Embroidery floss, hoop and needles to use for class or you can buy a kit
